Yacht Charter Miami Beach: Departures from Miami Beach Marina

Miami Beach is the obvious departure point for most first-time charter guests. The marina sits at the south end of the island, three blocks from Ocean Drive, ten minutes from the Fontainebleau, and twenty from MIA. From the dock you are inside Government Cut in under five minutes, which means more time on the water and less time motoring out. Golden Miami runs the majority of its half-day and sunset charters from Miami Beach Marina and the adjacent Sunset Harbour and Sea Isle slips.

What a Miami Beach departure unlocks

The geography here is the appeal. Within fifteen minutes of leaving the slip you can be cruising past Star Island and Hibiscus Island looking at the celebrity compounds, anchored off the south tip of South Beach watching the cruise ships clear Government Cut, or pointed north toward the Nixon Sandbar at Haulover for an afternoon raft-up. The Venetian Islands run right alongside the Causeway for sheltered cocktail cruising when the ocean is choppy. Most guests pick a hybrid: sandbar first, sunset over the downtown skyline on the way back in.

Common Miami Beach itineraries

  • Sunset cruise (2 hours): west into Biscayne Bay, loop the Venetian Islands and Star Island, return through Government Cut at golden hour.
  • Sandbar half-day (4 hours): north up the Intracoastal to the Nixon Sandbar, anchor with the rest of the boats, swim, return via the celebrity row.
  • Full-day bay and ocean (8 hours): morning sandbar, lunch at sea, afternoon at Boca Chita Key or Stiltsville, sunset on the way back.

Marinas we depart from on the Beach

  • Miami Beach Marina (300 Alton Road), the default for most charters, parking garage on site, easy Uber drop-off.
  • Sunset Harbour Marina (1928 Purdy Avenue), quieter, closer to the restaurants on Sunset Harbour Drive.
  • Sea Isle Marina (1635 N Bayshore Drive), technically Edgewater across the Causeway, used for vessels that need deeper draft or specific covered slips.

When to book a Beach departure

Saturday afternoons March through May are the tightest weekend in the calendar. The same is true of the Friday-Sunday window during Art Basel (early December), Super Bowl week, Memorial Day, and Fourth of July. For those dates, book two to three weeks out for the size yacht you actually want. Mid-week and shoulder-season (September, early October, January) we can usually confirm same day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is parking available at the marina?

Yes, there is a paid public garage at Miami Beach Marina ($25 flat for the day on weekends). Uber and Lyft drop right at the gate, which most guests prefer.

Can the captain time the return for sunset?

Yes. The captain plans the loop so you are passing Star Island and the downtown skyline 20-30 minutes before sunset, which is when the light is best for photos.

How far is the Nixon Sandbar from Miami Beach Marina?

Roughly 45 minutes one way at cruising speed, going up the Intracoastal Waterway. A 4-hour charter is the minimum that makes the sandbar comfortable, 6 hours is more relaxed.

Are there bigger yachts available from the Beach?

Yes. Vessels up to about 120ft can be accommodated at Miami Beach Marina, larger superyachts dock at Island Gardens Deep Harbour on Watson Island, a five-minute cab ride across the MacArthur.
